March Astronomical Phenomena in the Americas
In March 2025, the Americas will have a chance to observe two astronomical phenomena if we are lucky.
1. Lunar Eclipse
The first is a total lunar eclipse, which is predicted to occur on March 13-14. A total lunar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the sun, earth, and moon are in a straight line and the moon is hidden in the shadow of the earth. It is also called “Blood Moon” because of its reddish-bronze appearance.
This year's lunar eclipse in March will be visible in North America, South America, and Hawaii.
【Recommendation Items for Lunar Eclipse Observation】
■Sky walker SW-0 Telescope
When it comes to astronomical observation, telescopes are the way to go! For those who want to observe with a telescope with their children, we recommend the Sky Walker SW-0 Telescope, which is a great entry-level telescope model.
■Binoculars
Binoculars are perfect for those who want to observe the moon alone. Binoculars allow you to observe the Moon in detail, including craters on its surface. For observing the moon, we recommend binoculars with a magnification of 8x or more and an objective lens diameter of about 42mm.
The following models are recommended by Kenko.
- Mirage CHECK
- Ultraview EX DH III CHECK
- Ultraview EX Compact CHECK
- Avantar ED II CHECK
- SGEX OP WP CHECK
■Realpro Clip Lens Tele 7x / 8x
If you want to enjoy both viewing and photographing with ease, we recommend the clip lens for smartphones!
Simply insert the lens into your smartphone to enjoy telephoto shooting.
There are two types of telephoto lenses: 7x and 8x magnification.
The adapter to attach the lens to the smartphone is detachable and can be used as a monocular by removing it!

2. Solar Eclipse
Another astronomical phenomenon is the partial solar eclipse predicted on March 29.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon enters between the earth and the sun, and the moon hides the sun. When the sun is partially hidden, it is called a "partial solar eclipse".
The March solar eclipse is expected to be visible in Europe, eastern Canada and parts of eastern North America (including Maine, Massachusetts, and New York... etc.).
【How to observe a solar eclipse?】
When photographing a solar eclipse, a highly concentrated ND filter is indispensable because it is necessary to reduce the light from the sun.
The Kenko PRO ND100000 will allow you to capture this precious phenomenon in your photos!
You can choose two types filter: a screw type (77 or 82mm) and a square type (100x100mm).
⚠ Safety warning for observing of the solar eclipse
*The Kenko PRO ND100000 filter is for photography purposes only. Do not look at the sun through it with the naked eye, or use it for any other non-photography purposes.
*In addition, please do not engage in any of the following activities Doing so may result in blindness.
